Farm Tour By Bike

You are invited to the 2017 People’s Food Co-op Farm Tour!  This year’s tour we be really special because it will be by bike!  We will be touring several farms located within proximity of the Springwater Corridor bike trail in SE Portland.

Meet in the courtyard at People’s for complimentary coffee, tea, and pastries, from 8:00-8:45am.  The ride will leave promptly at 8:45am.  We will head West, briefly, to connect with the Springwater trail near OMSI, and then enjoy a lovely ride along the waterfront, through Sellwood, and then on to our farm destinations!

The ride will be easy to moderate, with only very slight (and brief) climbs.  We will be covering approximately 16 miles throughout the entire ride.  Our intention is to ride at an easy pace that can accommodate riders of differing skill levels.  Children on bikes are welcome to participate in the ride but may struggle to keep pace, so we recommend using trailers, cargo bikes, or tag-a-longs if you want to bring a kiddo.

As always, be prepared!  You should bring your own water.  There will be a People’s staff person on hand who will be equipped to help with flat tires, should the need arise.

People’s will provide snacks and canned beverages throughout the duration of the ride.  However, you will be responsible for providing your own lunch.  There will be a ½ hour lunch and rest time at Zenger Farms.

The ride will conclude at the Portland Mercado, located at SE 72nd & Foster, where multiple food carts and beverage options await.  We bet you’ll be hungry by then!

This ride will be an excellent opportunity to connect with the semi-rural areas on the perimeter of Portland via the Springwater Trail.  Learn more about the unique urban farming operations underway in our own backyard, and get inspired for how you can participate in their mission and encourage local food systems.

The cost of the ride is a sliding scale $0-$10 to help cover snacks and other costs.
